探訪 伊豆大島の地層切断面

伊豆大島の南西部には、およそ高さ30m、長さ600ｍに及ぶ、巨大な地層の断面が広がる。伊豆大島は昭和６１年、三原山の噴火で全島民約１万人が避難したことで知られる。島の人にはやっかいな存在だが芸術的な風景をもたらしたのも火山の三原山。見事な地層は今も島内観光の見どころのひとつ。
