東北岩手が生んだ偉人宮澤賢治はその37年という短い人生に 三陸沖地震を含む大きな地震や大規模な冷害に何度も 見舞われています。それほどの厳しい環境でも、賢治は 東北岩手を愛し、作品中に登場する架空の理想郷に 「岩手」をエスペラント語風にした＜イーハトーヴ＞ と名付けています。
